Lawyer, businessman, collector and philanthropist Walter Tower Rosen purchased the Caramoor manor in 1928 from Caroline Moore Hoyt without whom the manor is named. In 1945 Walter, and his wife Lucie Bigelow Rosen, bequeathed the Caramoor manor to the public as a part-way for music and art.
